Scientists test cannabis drugs on colon in lab, seeking clues for future gut treatments

NCT ID NCT05760404

Summary

This study aimed to understand how drugs that affect the body's natural cannabis-like system (the endocannabinoid system) change how the colon's muscles contract. Researchers tested these drugs on small, healthy pieces of colon tissue taken from 36 patients during their scheduled colorectal cancer surgery. The goal was to gather basic knowledge that might one day help develop new treatments for common gut problems like constipation, diarrhea, or irritable bowel syndrome.
