Can ozempic and mounjaro turn back your biological clock?
NCT ID NCT07293325
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will give 66 adults with obesity either semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy), tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound), or metformin for 24 weeks. Researchers will use a DNA test called iWatchAge to see if these drugs can reverse or slow the genetic signs of aging. The goal is to find out if treating obesity can also help people age more slowly at a cellular level.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- semaglutide, tirzepatide, or metformin
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a way to slow biological aging in people with obesity, potentially reducing age-related health risks.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 66 people. It measures a biomarker (epigenetic age), not actual health outcomes, so results may not translate to real-world benefits.
