Sunshine vitamin tested as shield against rising tide of baby food allergies

NCT ID NCT02112734

Summary

This study is testing whether giving vitamin D supplements to healthy, breastfed babies in their first year of life can prevent them from developing food allergies. It involves over 2,700 infants in Australia, where food allergy rates are among the highest in the world. Researchers will check if the babies develop food allergies at age 1 and again at age 6 to see if the vitamin D had a lasting protective effect.
