Summary

This study explores whether nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)—using patches and lozenges—can help regular e-cigarette users stop vaping. Participants first vape as usual for three days, then are randomly assigned to either receive NRT for up to seven days or to quit all nicotine without NRT. Researchers track cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and nicotine exposure to see if NRT eases the quitting process and to improve future cessation methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine patch and lozenge) combined with brief behavioral counseling
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward an effective, practical way to help people stop vaping, potentially reducing nicotine dependence and related health risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial, so results may not apply to all vapers. NRT can cause side effects like dizziness or nausea, and some people may still struggle to quit.
