Blood test may predict hidden surgical risks

NCT ID NCT06639906

First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looked at whether certain substances in the blood (decorin and TGF β1) can predict the presence and severity of internal scar tissue (adhesions) before abdominal surgery. Researchers studied 56 women with a history of prior abdominal surgery who were scheduled for a gynecological operation. By comparing blood test results with actual scar tissue found during surgery, they aimed to see if a simple blood test could help doctors anticipate and prepare for adhesions, potentially making surgery safer.
