Early iron levels may flag diabetes risk in pregnancy

NCT ID NCT07433465

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring ferritin (a marker of iron stores) early in pregnancy could predict which women would later develop gestational diabetes. Researchers followed 556 pregnant women, checking their ferritin, transferrin, and hemoglobin levels at the start of pregnancy. The goal was to see if these markers could help identify high-risk women early, allowing for timely interventions to prevent or manage diabetes.
