Breakthrough trial tests if common arthritis pill can actually heal damaged bones

NCT ID NCT05955066

Summary

This study is testing whether a medication called baricitinib can help repair existing bone damage in people with active rheumatoid arthritis. Sixty adult patients with active arthritis and visible bone erosion will take either the real drug or a placebo pill daily for 24 weeks. Researchers will use a special high-resolution scan to see if the drug leads to actual healing of the bone damage, which could be a significant step beyond just controlling symptoms.
