First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at whether chewing gum with caffeine or nicotine changes balance in healthy, trained adults. Twenty athletes completed balance tests after taking caffeine gum, nicotine gum, placebo gum, or no gum. The results showed no significant differences in balance performance between any of the conditions. The study suggests that for trained athletes, these stimulants don't affect postural stability.
