Brain injury patients try cafe work as unconventional rehab

NCT ID NCT06734026

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a 'cafe therapy' program helps people with chronic traumatic brain injury improve their movement, thinking, and daily function. Twenty participants will work in a real cafe for 2 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 6-8 weeks, with supervision from researchers. The goal is to see if this enriched environment leads to better recovery than standard therapy alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Cafe therapy (working in a cafe with supervision)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more engaging way to help people with brain injury regain function and independence.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is also time-intensive and may not be practical for all.
