Could a cancer drug shrink endometrial tumors?
NCT ID NCT01935934
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tested the drug cabozantinib in 102 women with endometrial cancer that had returned or spread. The drug works by blocking enzymes that help tumors grow and by cutting off their blood supply. Researchers measured how many patients saw their tumors shrink or stop growing for at least 12 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cabozantinib (a drug that blocks enzymes needed for tumor growth and blood flow)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new treatment option for women with endometrial cancer that has returned or spread.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with a moderate number of participants, so results are not definitive. The drug may not work for all subtypes and could have side effects.
