First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether a probiotic called Clostridium butyricum, alone or with a sugar called trehalose, can help reduce scarring in the gut caused by Crohn's disease. Forty adults with a narrowed (stricturing) form of Crohn's will take one of four treatments for two months before a colonoscopy. Researchers will check tissue and blood samples for signs of reduced inflammation and fibrosis.
