Could a probiotic help prevent gut scarring in Crohn's disease?

NCT ID NCT07263880

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early study tests whether a probiotic called Clostridium butyricum can help prevent or treat scarring in the gut caused by Crohn's disease. About 40 adults with a narrowing form of Crohn's will take the probiotic, a sugar called trehalose, both, or a placebo for two months before a colonoscopy. Researchers will check tissue and blood samples for signs of reduced inflammation and scarring.
