First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests two treatments for burning mouth syndrome, a condition causing ongoing mouth pain without visible cause. One treatment uses low-level laser therapy (light energy), and the other uses a supplement called alpha-lipoic acid. Sixty adults with the condition will receive one of the two treatments for two weeks, and their pain levels will be measured using a standard pain scale.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a non-drug, low-risk option for managing chronic burning mouth pain.
