Scientists use special gas in MRI to hunt for hidden 'Good Fat'

NCT ID NCT02220426

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether a special type of MRI scan using inhaled xenon gas could detect brown adipose tissue (a type of 'good fat' that burns calories) in healthy adults. Researchers scanned 17 volunteers to see if they could measure this fat and its activity when the body was slightly cooled. The goal was to develop a better tool for future obesity research, not to treat participants.
