Breathing training may boost scoliosis therapy in children
NCT ID NCT07177430
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special breathing exercise device can improve lung function, exercise ability, and core strength in children and adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis who are already doing Schroth therapy. About 56 participants aged 11–16 will use the device daily for 8 weeks. The goal is to see if adding this training makes standard therapy more effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Inspiratory muscle training (device)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this training could become a simple add-on to Schroth therapy, helping kids with scoliosis breathe easier, exercise longer, and have stronger core muscles.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 56 participants. The sham group may show similar benefits, and results may not apply to all scoliosis patients. The training requires daily effort for 8 weeks.
