Could breathing less oxygen help people walk again?

NCT ID NCT02632422

Summary

This study is testing whether short, controlled sessions of breathing mildly low-oxygen air can help people recover walking ability and leg strength after a recent spinal cord injury. The idea is based on animal research showing this approach can strengthen nerve connections in the spinal cord. Researchers are enrolling 125 adults who are 2 to 12 months post-injury to see if this non-drug method improves their walking tests and quality of life.
