Can simple breathing exercises improve asthma control as well as a device?
NCT ID NCT07110116
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares two techniques to help people with mild to moderate asthma breathe better: alternate nostril breathing (a type of yoga breathing) and using an incentive spirometer (a device that encourages deep breathing). Researchers will measure lung function and quality of life in 54 adults over the course of the trial. The goal is to see which method works best for improving asthma symptoms and control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
alternate nostril breathing exercise and incentive spirometer technique
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show that simple breathing exercises are as effective as a device for improving lung function in people with mild to moderate asthma.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 54 participants, so results may not apply to everyone with asthma. The study compares two non-drug interventions, so any benefit is likely modest and not a replacement for standard medical care.
