Simple breathing drills may ease suffering for End-Stage cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07164352
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether supervised breathing exercises could reduce pain, shortness of breath, and improve daily function in 58 terminal-stage cancer patients receiving palliative care. One group did diaphragmatic and pursed-lip breathing with a physiotherapist, while the other group just got an informational brochure. The goal was to see if a simple, non-drug approach could make patients more comfortable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
breathing exercises (diaphragmatic and pursed-lip breathing)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help terminal cancer patients feel less breathless and more comfortable in their daily lives.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed master's thesis study with only 58 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and the effect on pain or function might be modest.
