Can a 9-Minute chat improve asthma in kids?
NCT ID NCT05832437
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a short, scripted conversation between doctors, children with asthma, and their caregivers to improve asthma control. The program, called BREATHE-Peds, was designed for urban youth aged 10-14 who receive care at community health centers. The goal was to see if involving kids in decisions about their treatment could lead to better asthma management.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BREATHE-Peds behavioral intervention (a scripted shared decision-making conversation with a primary care provider)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to help families and doctors work together to better manage childhood asthma.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (67 participants) with no control group comparison yet, so results may not apply broadly or show clear benefit.
