Summary
This study aims to see if chemicals in a person's breath can be used to quickly diagnose the cause of serious respiratory infections in hospitalized patients. Researchers will collect breath samples from 777 adults with infections like COVID-19, flu, or bacterial pneumonia, as well as from healthy people for comparison. The goal is to develop a faster, non-invasive test to tell if an infection is viral or bacterial, which could help doctors choose the right treatment sooner.
