Could your heartburn meds be upsetting your gut?
NCT ID NCT05976165
Summary
This study aims to understand if common heartburn medications (proton pump inhibitors) can lead to an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine, a condition called SIBO. Researchers will recruit 50 adults with heartburn symptoms who haven't taken these medications recently. Participants will take a short course of heartburn medicine and use a simple breath test to check for bacterial overgrowth before and after treatment.
