First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a program called BEST4Baby, which uses trained peer counselors and a mobile health app to support new mothers in India with breastfeeding. About 336 pregnant women will be split into two groups: one gets the extra support, the other gets usual care. Researchers will check if more babies are exclusively breastfed at 6 months and track infant growth and brain development up to 12 months.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
BEST4Baby (behavioral intervention: peer counseling and mHealth app)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a scalable way to improve breastfeeding rates and infant health in low-resource communities worldwide.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, not a drug trial, so results depend on consistent participation and may not generalize to other settings.
