New skin substitute tested for safer breast reconstruction

Summary

This study looks at the safety of a new type of skin substitute (called acellular dermal matrix) used in breast reconstruction surgery after mastectomy for breast cancer. About 120 women will be observed to see if this new material causes fewer short-term complications compared to older versions. The goal is to find a safer option for rebuilding the breast.
