Study questions need for routine lymph node surgery in older breast cancer patients

NCT ID NCT02564848

Summary

This study is testing whether women aged 65+ with early-stage, hormone-positive breast cancer can safely skip a procedure called sentinel lymph node biopsy during their tumor-removal surgery. The goal is to see if avoiding this extra surgery leads to acceptable cancer recurrence rates over six years. Participants will have standard lumpectomy, radiation, and hormone therapy, followed by regular check-ups.
