Scientists test drug combos to shrink tumors before breast cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT00295893

Summary

This study is testing two different combinations of chemotherapy drugs, given before surgery, to see which is better at shrinking breast tumors. For some patients, a targeted drug called trastuzumab (Herceptin) is added to one of the combinations. The goal is to reduce the amount of cancer present at surgery, which may improve long-term outcomes. The study enrolled 121 people with stage II or III breast cancer.
