Lab-Grown mini tumors could unlock secrets of chemo resistance in breast cancer
NCT ID NCT07516626
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will take tumor samples from 40 women with locally advanced breast cancer and grow them in the lab as 3D 'mini tumors' called organoids. Researchers will test how these organoids respond to chemotherapy and compare the results to how the patients actually responded. They will also test whether certain approved drugs can reverse chemotherapy resistance. The goal is to better understand why some cancers don't respond to treatment and to find ways to personalize therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a lab test that predicts which chemotherapy will work best for each patient, and identify existing drugs that can overcome resistance.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The organoid models may not perfectly mimic real tumor behavior.
