Hidden heart risk? study probes anesthesia danger for breast cancer survivors

NCT ID NCT01754597

Summary

This study aimed to understand if general anesthesia during breast cancer surgery puts extra stress on the heart for patients who previously received a specific type of chemotherapy called anthracyclines. Researchers measured a blood marker (BNP) linked to heart strain before, during, and after surgery in 54 women. The goal was to gather information to see if there is a hidden interaction between the chemotherapy drugs and anesthesia that doctors should watch for.
