New gene test may sharpen diagnosis of tricky breast lumps

NCT ID NCT07416500

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at whether testing for changes in three genes (BRCA1, RASSF1A, and PTEN) in breast tissue can help doctors better diagnose breast lesions that are hard to classify. Researchers took extra tissue samples from 301 women with suspicious breast lumps and analyzed the genes' methylation patterns. The goal was to see if these genetic markers could improve the accuracy of distinguishing benign from malignant lesions, potentially reducing unnecessary surgeries or missed cancers.
