Brain wave race: inhaled sedative vs. IV and nasal versions
NCT ID NCT07020988
First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested how quickly a new inhaled form of alprazolam (Staccato) affects brain activity compared to two standard sedatives given through a vein or as a nasal spray. Fifty-five healthy adults received single doses of each drug in a random order, and their brain waves were measured with an EEG. The goal was to see which method produces a fast, measurable change in brain patterns, which could help design better treatments for conditions like seizures or anxiety.
