New scan aims to sharpen brain cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT01991977

Summary

This study tested whether adding a special type of PET scan (called 18F-DOPA-PET) to standard MRI could help doctors more accurately plan radiation therapy for people with newly diagnosed malignant brain tumors (gliomas). The goal was to see if this combined imaging approach could better define the tumor area for radiation, potentially improving treatment outcomes and survival. Researchers compared results from 91 patients to historical data to see if this method led to longer periods without tumor growth.
