Scientists zap the brain to unlock secrets of sleep

NCT ID NCT07217080

Summary

This research aims to understand how electrical stimulation of a deep brain area called the thalamus affects natural sleep patterns. The study involves about 50 patients with epilepsy who already have electrodes implanted in their brains for medical monitoring. By carefully timing stimulation during sleep, researchers hope to learn how to improve future therapies for sleep problems linked to various brain disorders.
