New brain implant aims for sharper control of Parkinson's symptoms

NCT ID NCT05626608

Summary

This study is testing a new type of directional brain electrode (CARTESIA™) for people with Parkinson's disease who are already scheduled for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The goal is to see if this newer electrode can better control movement symptoms like tremors and stiffness, while causing fewer side effects like speech problems, compared to the standard DBS electrodes. Researchers will compare different stimulation settings in 10 participants to find the most effective and tolerable approach.
