Brain implants tested as last hope for opioid addiction

NCT ID NCT04354077

Summary

This small pilot study is testing whether deep brain stimulation can help people with severe opioid addiction who haven't responded to other treatments. Three participants will receive brain implants that deliver electrical pulses to a specific brain area involved in addiction. Researchers will check if this approach is safe and whether it reduces opioid use, cravings, and relapse in people who continue using opioids despite standard addiction care.
