Scientists scan brains to unlock mystery of Sedative's pain relief

NCT ID NCT04656470

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a low dose of the sedative drug dexmedetomidine relieves pain by looking at brain activity. Researchers gave the drug to 17 healthy volunteers and used MRI brain scans while applying a controlled pain stimulus. The goal was to map how the drug changes the brain's pain-processing circuits, not to treat any condition.
