Brain zap study: will precision radiation save your memory?
NCT ID NCT03184038
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether precise radiation (SRS or SBRT) can help preserve thinking and memory in people with multiple brain tumors that have spread from other cancers. About 90 adults with 1 to 10 brain metastases will get radiation and then take thinking tests over 4 months. The goal is to see if this approach causes less mental decline than standard treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that precise radiation helps preserve memory and thinking in people with multiple brain tumors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (90 people) that only measures thinking, not survival. Results may not apply to all patients or tumor types.
