Brain scans could help surgeons spare critical functions during tumor removal

NCT ID NCT07343492

Summary

This study investigated whether a special type of brain scan (resting-state fMRI) could identify which areas of swollen tissue around a brain tumor are still healthy and functioning. Researchers scanned 44 adults with glioma before their scheduled surgery and then analyzed tiny tissue samples taken during the operation. The goal was to see if the scan results matched the actual biological state of the tissue, potentially helping future surgeons avoid damaging critical brain areas.
