Scientists scan brains to see how HIV and opioids cause inflammation

NCT ID NCT04401917

Summary

This study uses a special brain scan (PET/CT) to measure inflammation in the brains of four groups of people: those with HIV, those with opioid use disorder, those with both conditions, and healthy individuals. The goal is to understand how these conditions, alone or combined, affect brain inflammation. Participants undergo a brain scan after receiving a small, safe amount of a radioactive tracer to highlight areas of inflammation.
