Arm access showdown: which method is safer for artery procedures?

NCT ID NCT07573644

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two methods of accessing the brachial artery in the arm for treating blocked leg arteries: a needle poke through the skin (percutaneous) versus a small cut (open). About 246 adults will be randomly assigned to one method. The goal is to see which approach causes fewer complications at the access site.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If this trial succeeds, it could help doctors choose the safer method for accessing the brachial artery during endovascular procedures, potentially reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage comparative study with no direct treatment benefit. Results may not apply to all patients or settings, and complication rates could vary.
