One-Two punch: new procedure aims to free kidney patients from lifelong drugs

NCT ID NCT05900401

Summary

This study is testing a new approach for people who have received a kidney transplant. After the kidney transplant, patients get a bone marrow transplant from the same donor. The goal is to 're-educate' the patient's immune system to accept the new kidney, potentially allowing them to safely stop taking powerful anti-rejection medications for good. The trial will check if this combined transplant is safe and if it successfully creates long-term tolerance to the donated kidney.
