Can a bone graft improve ACL surgery outcomes?

NCT ID NCT06975306

First seen Aug 14, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 14, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether filling the bone gap left after ACL reconstruction with a patient's own bone or a processed bone product leads to better outcomes. Adults aged 18-40 undergoing ACL surgery with a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft will be randomly assigned to receive either an autologous bone graft or demineralized bone matrix putty. Researchers will compare pain, knee function, range of motion, and complications between the two groups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
autologous bone graft or demineralized bone matrix (DBM) putty
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify a better way to fill the bone gap after ACL surgery, potentially reducing pain and improving knee function and recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial, and results may not apply to everyone. Possible risks include graft displacement, infection, or complications from the procedure.
