First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 73 people with otosclerosis who had stapes surgery using bone cement to fix the middle ear bones. The goal was to see if bone cement helps improve hearing over the long term. Researchers measured both conductive and sensorineural hearing changes with hearing tests.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bone cement

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that using bone cement during stapes surgery improves both conductive and sensorineural hearing in the long term for people with otosclerosis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 73 patients. Results may not apply to everyone, and the improvement in sensorineural hearing is not yet proven in larger trials.
