VA study tests when to give blood after surgery to prevent heart attacks
NCT ID NCT03229941
Summary
This study aimed to find the safest rule for giving blood transfusions after major surgery to veterans at high risk for heart problems. It compared giving blood when hemoglobin drops below 10 (liberal strategy) versus waiting until it drops below 7 (restrictive strategy). The goal was to see which approach better prevented serious complications like heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure within 90 days after surgery.
