Blood test may spare many diverticulitis patients from unnecessary colonoscopies

NCT ID NCT06023004

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple blood test that checks for circulating tumor DNA can help decide who really needs a colonoscopy after a diverticulitis attack. About 220 participants will give a blood sample and then have a colonoscopy as usual. Researchers will compare the blood test results to the colonoscopy findings to see if the blood test can accurately spot those with colorectal cancer. If successful, this approach could reduce the number of unnecessary colonoscopies and save healthcare costs.
