Tourniquet-Style therapy aims to stop muscle wasting after hip breaks

NCT ID NCT04809714

Summary

This study is testing if adding a special therapy called blood flow restriction (BFR) to standard physical therapy can help older adults recover faster after hip fracture surgery. BFR involves using a cuff to briefly reduce blood flow to the leg during light exercises, which may help prevent muscle loss. The researchers are comparing standard rehab to rehab plus BFR in 20 patients to see if it improves leg strength, walking ability, and reduces pain in the first two weeks after surgery.
