Full-Body scan reveals how heart valve disease affects blood flow to organs
NCT ID NCT04941248
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study from RenJi Hospital used a special full-body PET/CT scanner to measure blood flow throughout the body in 34 people: 9 healthy volunteers and 16 patients with severe aortic stenosis and reduced heart function. The goal was to see how blood flow differs between healthy people and patients, and how it changes after TAVR (a minimally invasive valve replacement). The study does not test a new drug or treatment, but aims to improve understanding of the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors understand how severe aortic stenosis affects blood flow to organs and how TAVR surgery may improve it.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage imaging study with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It does not test a treatment or directly improve health.
