Secret weapon for bowlers: light weights + blood flow restriction may build arm power

NCT ID NCT07440810

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether adding blood flow restriction (using elastic wraps) to low-load arm exercises could improve strength, arm size, and power in cricket fast bowlers. Twenty-four bowlers aged 18-30 took part. The goal was to see if this technique could provide muscle benefits similar to heavy weight training but with lighter loads.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Blood flow restriction training with low-load resistance exercises

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a safer way for athletes to build arm strength and power without heavy weights.

What could go wrong

This was a small, completed trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to all athletes. The approach is also very specific to fast bowlers and may not help other conditions.
