Listening to dialysis access: sound may reveal blood flow problems
NCT ID NCT06411353
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looks at whether the sound made by an arteriovenous fistula (a surgically created connection between an artery and a vein used for dialysis) can tell doctors about blood flow conditions inside it. Researchers will measure sound patterns and compare them to ultrasound images in 15 adults with end-stage kidney disease who need a new fistula. The goal is to develop a non-invasive way to monitor fistula health and predict problems.
