This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting
Registered, but not yet taking participants.

Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

Pancreatic cancer is hard to catch early because its symptoms overlap with chronic pancreatitis and benign pancreatic cysts. This study asks whether a panel of blood proteins, including GDF-15, ICAM-1, osteopontin, CXCL10, HGF, Nectin-4, periostin, and VEGF-A, can distinguish pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma from those other conditions. Researchers will compare blood levels across four groups of adults: people with pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, and mucinous cystic neoplasms. They will also test whether combining the proteins with the standard marker CA 19-9 improves accuracy over either approach alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a panel of blood-based protein biomarkers, including GDF-15, ICAM-1, osteopontin, CXCL10, HGF, Nectin-4, periostin, and VEGF-A, measured alongside CA 19-9
What this could lead to
If the panel works, doctors could one day use a simple blood test to flag pancreatic cancer earlier and spare some patients from invasive procedures to rule it out.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study of 100 people, so it can only show whether the markers track with disease, not whether they improve patient outcomes. Biomarker levels can overlap between cancer and benign pancreatic conditions, and the panel may not hold up in larger or more diverse groups.

Who is studied

The study population will consist of patients recruited from two tertiary referral centers in Romania: the Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sf. Spiridon County Clinical Emergency Hospital in Iași and Fundeni Clinical Institute in Bucharest. Participants will be prospectively enrolled during routine clinical care in the gastroenterology departments of the participating institutions.
