Black mulberry mouthwash tested as gum disease fighter

NCT ID NCT07499596

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a mouthwash made from black mulberry extract can improve gum health when used along with standard dental cleaning (scaling and root planing). Thirty adults with gingivitis will be split into two groups: one gets cleaning alone, the other adds the mulberry mouthwash twice daily for 14 days. Researchers will measure gum inflammation, immune markers, and bacteria levels at 1 and 3 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Morus nigra (black mulberry) mouthwash
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a natural mouthwash to help control gum inflammation alongside regular dental cleanings.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 30 people. The mouthwash may not provide any extra benefit over standard cleaning, and results may not apply to everyone.
