New drug combo aims to boost stem cell harvest in myeloma patients

NCT ID NCT03246529

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 3 trial tests whether adding BL-8040 to standard G-CSF helps collect more stem cells for transplant in multiple myeloma patients. About 180 participants received either the combo or a placebo. The goal is to see if more patients can collect enough cells in fewer sessions, making the transplant process smoother.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BL-8040 (a drug to help release stem cells) plus G-CSF (a standard growth factor)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could make stem cell collection faster and more reliable for multiple myeloma patients needing a transplant.

What could go wrong

This is a late-stage trial, but results are not yet final. The drug may not improve collection enough to change standard care, and side effects from BL-8040 are possible.
