NCT ID NCT05449691
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether women and surgeons are comfortable with being randomly assigned to receive either a biological or synthetic mesh during immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Sixty women will take part and be followed for six months. The results will help design a larger trial that could ultimately improve outcomes and quality of life for breast cancer patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- biological or synthetic mesh
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a larger study that helps surgeons choose the best mesh for breast reconstruction, improving patient satisfaction and reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small feasibility study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It is not designed to prove which mesh is better, only to see if a larger trial is possible.
